Really good and sensitive retelling of Christopher Columbus. I liked the inclusion of information on tiano peoples.
However, I feel like she nit-picked to "show" how "inaccurate" some things about Christopher Columbus are. Like how his name changed based on the country he was in, so his name wasn't even Christopher Columbus. I mean...ok, but that was the custom for EVERYONE. Or how he wasn't Italian because Italy wasn't a country yet. Yeeees...but Italians claim him and it was the Italians who wanted him honored in the US in the first place. Because...you know...he was ITALIAN to them. (To her credit, the author does discuss this at the end.) And - past one - how the ships weren't really named the Nina, the pinta, and the Santa Maria...but we dont know what they were really named, only what oeople called them. Um....so that WAS their names for all intents and purposes.
I mention all of this because i feel like it was too strong of an anti-Columbus bias. Don't get me wrong, Columbus was a crap human and shouldn't be honored. But it was just weird to see things like that nit-picked.

Moderate: Slavery and Xenophobia
I said "moderate" as it is obviously a huge theme in the book, but it doesn't describe graphically what the people suffered
