An otherwise enjoyable Agatha romp blighted by Beaton banging on about the impending ban on smoking in restaurants through Agatha.

I enjoyed the plot. Someone has put LSD in the jam at a contest. But I thought the culprit was a bit obvious and boring. Agatha’s crazy attempts to lure in a man are entertaining and as always her friends help add a comedy factor.

***SPOILER ALERT***When Mrs. Blocksby asks Agatha to help with a fete for another parish to fundraise, she agrees when she sees George, a handsome man helping out. She pulls out all the stops and gets a famous singer to come.

At the fete, there’s a lineup at the jam tent, and two women, obviously high, end up dead. The jam is the culprit, laced with LSD, but no one has a clear motive.

They raise a load of money, which Agatha suggest be put in a safety deposit box and keeps the key for. As her team searches for the guilty party, more people turn up dead, and a pattern emerges involving George.

It turns out he wants to marry a woman who wants her own business and he keeps wooing rich women to get the capital. She discovers the jam criminal, and the other murders are solved as well.

She also has to face James getting married, and attends his engagement party, where he seems to want her to be jealous instead of happy for him.

This was a good mystery, but I loved the focus on Toni and Harry, and Agatha’s hilarious antics because of her jealousy of Toni, and with her hair extension fiasco at James’ engagement party. Roy brings his unique style to the goings on, and Charles is Charles.

More of it all, please.

Pretty fun and the ending leaves lots of possibilities for future books.

Anti-woman at times, but I feel like it’s the product of when it was written… I enjoyed the plot of this one a lot!

When I picked up the first book in the series a year ago I never thought I'd love it so much I'd be on book 19 by now....
I've just read three of the books in the series in a row, so I must admit they slightly blend together.... The author even enjoys using the same names, in all three of the books there were different Jimmy's, different Georges, and in two of the the books there Were Phyllises; I'd venture to guess there is a Jimmy in every single book, not to mention that Agatha's ex-husband was named Jimmy, and her on again off again love interest is named James(She was actually married to him at some point).... this book had Agatha on the case, a little different this time somebody put LSD in the jam.... Tony is still around, still such a great addition to the series, and Agatha does seem to get a little jealous because Tony is younger and of course more photogenic..... and now James is getting remarried, of course to a much younger woman, Agatha is just going through a crisis now.... always fun to spend time with all of these characters....
*** there is also a Trixie in this book and the following book, just adding to the name list :-)

I know I knock Agatha for being so outrageously rude sometimes, but I honestly envy her for how much she's able to take on the chin.

No shame, no problems.
