This was my first book by Ms. Dimaline, and she has me hooked. This writing was like cutting and edgy and poetic and just so incredibly raw and real. It felt so authentic to the rough-as-hell years of middle and high school. And the exploring of the sexuality and the fascination with dark things. I loved it all. I highly recommend this one.

I will truly read anything Cherie Dimaline writes and this book was a great example of why. While it did take a tiny bit of time to get moving, Dimaline created a beautiful narrative that kept me guessing. There was a lot going on in this book, but it never felt like too much or felt as though some plots were not getting the time they deserved. Dimaline has a gift for balancing complex characters and plots without overwhelming a reader.
I loved Winifred and Phil - I could have read about them forever. I wish some of the other characters (Winifred's dad, Penny), had been as well developed, but I also get that it's a YA book with limited space. Definitely a great read and I'm so excited to read more.
