NYPD Red 5: A shocking attack. A killer with a vendetta. A city on red alert by James Patterson

3 1/2 stars.
The story was interesting; I enjoyed the leads and the movie industry angle.
Still, some of the writing was "clunky".
For instance, we had an intelligent killer, whose girlfriend was incredibly, annoyingly dumb.
The identity of the killer is no surprise...we are in on it from the very beginning. However, it turns out that the killer used to be in a mental institution...and he went back into the world and didn't change his name! That's convenient.

I enjoyed this quick, entertaining read. It had a feel of Lethal Weapon mixed with Blue Bloods, with Kylie providing the gung ho attitude of Martin Riggs because she is so career-driven rather than suffering from grief or any form of PTSD. It’s a book about a villain who’s written a movie script about the crimes he intends to commit, ending with a grand finale, and as such it is very visual. I found I could easily picture the set pieces in my mind. It was definitely entertaining enough to make me want to read the next book in the series.

Quick, light read. Like Patterson's other books, it's good for entertainment without taxing your brain too much. Perfect read to suit my shrinking attention span. Some parts were downright cheesy, but you already know what you're in for with Patterson books. Not bad!

I was looking for any easy and binge-able series to kick off the summer. This seems perfect. On to book 2!

I enjoyed this fast paced mystery and its characters. The crime based mystery plot engaged me, the characters were lively, and the setting, (New York City), kept me listening until the end.

A quick easy read by Patterson, this doesn't feel as forced as some of his later stuff, and follows his successful formula. Left me wanting to read the next one.
