breaking free is the memoir of rachel jeffs, daughter of prolific pedophile and cult leader warren jeffs. her story is devastating yet full of love. i think my favorite parts were whenever she talked about her sisters and her mother.

I could not put this book down. Rachel goes into harrowing detail about the abuse she suffered throughout her time in the FLDS community. Major trigger warning for CSA as she goes into detail very early in the book and brings it up frequently.
There were parts where I could not believe these things that were happening were real, but they are. It was evident in the writing this is her raw, authentic retelling of her experience as Warren Jeffs daughter and it is incredibly well done. As a social worker reading this though, I sincerely hope her and her children got therapy for all that they have been through.

You know a book is good when you finish it in one sitting! Inturesting first had experiance with a closer look at understanding an otherwise closed culture.

I don’t really know how to rate this book - I was certainly incredibly engrossed. The FLDS is scary. This is certainly going to send me down a rabbit hole of documentaries. Thank you to my spring break trip to the state of Utah for the inspiration (and especially to the park ranger at Pipe Springs National Monument).
