First dud of the year.
I expected humorous, insightful, and relatable essays on the ups and downs of marriage but was instead forced to take a navel-gazing deep dive into some problematic and petty parts of Calhoun’s marriage, many of which left me feeling confounded and annoyed. The only reason I didn’t DNF this is because there were a handful of bright spots in the form of quotes and insights from other people who didn’t regularly dabble in infidelity like Calhoun and her husband.

I listen to 2 out of the 3 hours of the audiobook and so far it’s been entirely about infidelity. Infidelity happens and it’s important to talk about and rationalize but nothing about how this book is presented made me think it would be almost entirely about infidelity. I’m having nightmares that my partner is going to cheat on me, and sure that’s my own anxiety but jeez. It just kept going on and on about infidelity and it really didn’t have to.
