A very well written, classic work on the time period. I have only subtracted some stars due to the scholarship being outdated at points (e.g. Plutarch-Appian narrative of rural land decline in 2nd century BCE), through no fault of the author.

A very useful book to understand the key events and players of the period. I recommend pairing it with more recent scholarship and doing some research into areas where our understanding has advanced since Scullard.
