A silly mystery, the twist at the end was pretty random. It wasn’t horrible - sort of a fun read but it went on too long with not a lot of pay off

My wife recommended this because I'm trying to learn more about wine, and well done genre fiction centered around a topic is generally a good way to get a framework. In that the book was successful. Nora Roberts is usually an engaging author and this was no exception - the characters were well drawn for their archetypes, the plot hummed along, the genre-required scenes (being a romance/thriller that means both the sex and the tension) worked the way they should. I would have given this one 4 stars but (no spoilers) the endgame just didn't play out as well as it should. The character motivations and solution to one of the mysteries just did not jell for key characters in the final scenes. which is a real shame.

The book was a bit slow in the beginning, but it picked up nicely and you get a little bit of everything. Sex, romance, murder, mystery, scandal. The plot twist at the end was not expected. Very solid book.

Maybe a 3.5 really. The story was really entertaining but I didn't expect it to be quite as dark as it got at times. Crisis crisis hit the family and it got a little hard to take. I liked the multi-generational story and even the mother and daughter joint romances. Interactions between characters new to the family mix and the family were realistic and honest. Some great suspense, fun interactions and enjoyable story. Climax was a little odd, in my opinion.

One of my favourite stand-alone Nora novels.
