There’s a term in film and writing criticism called the villain problem. It’s when a villain is more interesting than the hero.
In many ways, Dr. Doom is more interesting than Mr. Fantastic.
Magneto is more compelling than Charles Xavier.
The Joker is more colorful than Batman.
But let’s say the protagonist and the antagonist are both villains.
No problem there. That’s just fun.

Wow I’m so happy our found family is A-OK 😀
But seriously I think vengeful went bigger than Vicious but that doesn’t mean it was better. I wasn’t emotionally invested in our new antagonists, Marcelle was interesting but her actions were rushed, Jonathan was such a bland/boring character and I found June unlikable and weirdly obsessed with Sydney. Also that evil doctor just there so Victor and Eli can fight powerless and end their cycle of violence.
For all my issues I have with Vengeful, I still enjoyed it because I loved how VE Schwab wrote Victor and Eliot. Also with Sydney’s new power up, there has to be a third book, right??? 👀

Slower to get into than the first book. Also liked the first book a little more. Liked the open ending.
