This memoir was really powerful. I really resonated with a lot of her insecurities with her parents growing up, and thought her writing was clear and emotive. I would say this book is great for fans of Kerry Washington and any of her work. The only downside was that the book did jump around chronologically a little bit, which I was not a fan of. Overall, I would recommend this memoir to others and it made me an even bigger fan of hers.
Moderate: Sexual harassment
Minor: Abortion

It was just a bit too slow for me. I wanted to jump into the story sooner and I felt like it was taking too long to get to the real story—which was about how she felt upon finding out about her lineage.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Infertility, and Racism
Moderate: Sexual assault, Sexual violence, and Sexual harassment
