This one surprised and enthralled me from beginning to end. At first, I thought it was based on the Sarah Lawrence cult, but it turned into something really fascinating and validating to read. HOWEVER, there are many triggers in this book. Make sure you’re in a good, safe, headspace before reading.

It’s like a true crime handmaids tale. If the book wasn’t so fast-paced I probably would’ve had to stop reading because it was really dark at times. I had to look up one thousand and one nights, but it was cool that was interspersed with the recordings. I actually didn’t see the twist coming.

this book was extremely well done. definitely more than just ‘loosely’ based on the cult of Sarah Lawrence. it was that plus handmaids tale all rolled into one. terrifying and captivating. couldn’t put it down.

i think if you’re familiar with cults and secret societies, you’ll love it. if you’re not - i think a lot will go over your head and make it hard to understand.

I really enjoyed how this book pulled me in bit by bit.  I always enjoy a timeline that works around a college setting and the flashbacks here provided just enough to hook me in the beginning.  This book had so many twists and turns.  Podcasts are also a favorite of mine so this added extra fun for me.  Topics are pretty deep for some so check trigger warnings.  Definitely a top 5 book of the year for me.
