The definition of thumbs in the middle.
The good: Old school Doctor who plot, where a British historical site has a deeper alien connection; fun with the 6th Doctor meeting The Brigadier; Distinct characters
The bad: Lots of walking direct into someone's trap just to extend the plot and show villain exposition; A magic key that solves the whole adventure just accidentally found by the doctors companion; a lot of The Doctor sitting around waiting for the antagonists to move into position.

More like 3.5 Stars, but there was a rounding up factor in the fact that the Brigadier is awesome. Also, who'd have thought that a story about trolls and pixies could get so gruesome. The Sixth Doctor and Dr. Evelyn Smythe have ended up in one of the more ancient parts of Wales. They run across an archeological survey that is doing excavations of the haunted moor and the fogou on it. They end up in the midst of several revenge plot, but there's always one man the Doctor can count on: The Brigadier.
It is fantastic to hear Nicholas Courtney reprise his role of the Brigadier. He brings a warmth and a strength to the piece that would have left it lacking without it. At first I thought they underutilized him, but just wait till the end. This one sets up several things at the very beginning and doesn't reveal their true purpose until the end.
The Sixth Doctor and Evelyn are spectacular as always. I am getting very fond of their relationship even after only three audios (I listened to one out of order). My only real complaint is that the Doctor spends most of the third episode waiting in a UNIT station with the Brigadier where I though he could have been put to a bit better use. Other than that, the twists are exciting, the deaths gruesome and the supporting cast is pitch perfect. Wonderful for any Doctor Who fan.

The Brigadier meets Six! We also get more of Evelyn, who continues to be delightful; it feels like she and Six bring out the best in each other, which is an ideal Doctor/companion relationship. And it's nice to see a retired Brig get to save the world .

The Spectre of Lanyon Moor combines a strong sense of place, engaging performances, and a sinister atmosphere to deliver a memorable audio drama. It stands out as a testament to the potential of Big Finish’s early efforts, successfully weaving folklore and science fiction into a compelling tale.
