Sweet little Christmas tale with an excellent pop-up scene

Pretty illustrations reminiscent of retro 1950s - 1970s children's books color the pages of this story that is timeless (sadly). A homeless boy takes the last spindly Christmas tree to his home under a bridge. There, he decorates it with candles. People join him in song and the city comes together in celebration.

How can you not love a story about a little tree that no one wants and then a young boy finds the tree. Oh it is such a great story.

Nice story, beautifully illustrated. I liked the overall message of "hope," but I wish the reveal on the last page had been a little easier to spot. (I had to be pointed to it.) I also wish that somebody on that Christmas Eve would have tried to help the little boy, but I suppose that's maybe an extra punch of realism to the story.

I just found that this book didn’t match the mood I want in a Christmas book for kids.

Seemed like half a story. Little odd and not as quaint as I’d hoped. Still, could’ve been worse and still included some Christmas spirit.

En vacker, både till text och bild, och stämningsfull bok om julens magi.
