Absolutely phenomenal!
Laurel Night is a fairly new to me author. The first book of hers that I read was Pack claimed, but I love her writing style. The character development in this book is amazing. There is romance but you get to watch it grow. Not only that but you get each person's POV as things progress in the book so you have an overall understanding of each character's feelings and where that stand when it comes to the FMC. I absolutely loved this book and got annoyed everytime I had to put it down to deal with real life.

I think I would have rated this higher if the focus was on the wraiths and the romance was a back story. The relationship formation is a bit too tortured for my taste. The intelligent wraiths, though, were fascinating.

Such a shame because I loved the first one. I hate hate hate when the men decide they know better than the FMC and keep important information from her for her own good. Then she will have to forgive them without any true remorse from the men because they continue to do the same thing throughout the series. Kali is a great character but this trope will destroy the strength she os supposed to have. Bleh. So disappointing, I wish the relationships had been built on trust and mutual respect. Will not continue this series.

I am SO grateful to the author for wide-distributing the audio of this one—as I absolutely NEEDED it right away upon finishing Wolf Shunned.
This world is super addictive and brilliantly designed, I recommend it to everyone. It centers around a mystery that I felt was extremely obvious, yet I still thoroughly enjoyed watching it play out. The action and riddles only added to the fun. It could be macabre at times, and the author handled this brilliantly as well.
Will likely read more from this author.

Audio:
The narrators did a great job, good performance, smooth voices.

I read this book in a night and I couldn't stop reading.
The only thing I have to say is HOW CAN THEY BE SO STUPID? other than that it was a good book.

I get slow-burns and I know they aren’t usually my thing, but literally nothing happened in this book. The harem is built but basically only heat is like two brief make out scenes. So not much on the romance front. And the entire book was then traveling to the Oracle, who gives them super vague information and then sends them to the next Ancient. Some wraiths attack along the way, some people die. The end. We get a lot of the same thoughts or reactions from all the different characters but the whole book felt like the rising action, not a solid plot in itself. I will not be continuing the series and honestly I’m surprised I finished this installation.

I am really enjoying this series! This one felt like a lot of action but less depth maybe than the first? But it was great fun and a really good read. It kept me engaged throughout and I have to say the whole mate situation is pretty brutal!
I feel for Emory. I like him a lot but I think he probably feels a bit out of place! They are a fun group of characters to follow and it's a interesting story to follow! I'm fascinated by what the wraiths are up to.

You know, for all this book's talk of how archaic the rules regarding mates are and how it should be Kali's choice and how much the guys know they shouldn't force her, the fact that the resolution for the problem of Kali's dominance is to forcibly mate her leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. And without anything fun to distract from it, I was also stuck noticing the plodding and predictable narrative and the overabundance of the mis-/non-communication trope. I'm hoping that as the wraith conflict comes more to the forefront things will improve in the next entry...
