A very good introduction and guide for historians who have to teach the pacific but aren't experts in the region. Includes seabord Asia and America, which was impressive.

The Wing Luke Museum in Seattle has a fantastic bookstore, full of books you didn’t know you wanted to read. I was about halfway through this book before I figured out why I wanted to read it, since I’m not a teacher. But then I realized it was about how to teach myself about Pacific histories. It is full of, “to teach them about [this interesting concept] you could talk about [two sentences abou t fascinating incident or piece of writing] [footnote to book or article about it]. Scholarly and respectful, centering the islands and the connections, in contrast to the
“Pacific Rim” narrative.
