The plot and some of the reveals were interesting enough to pull me through to the end, but only barely. IMO, if you're going to try something audacious like reinventing slavery in an alternate Earth with an almost entirely white cast, you've got to be an incredible writer and wordbuilder with serious insight you think that vehicle will let you share. This... just isn't it. I kept thinking, "you haven't really thought out the implications of your premise." Characters are pretty flat. Not sure I'll bother with the rest of the series.

Similar to Handmaid's Tale wherein it takes the Black experience and reimagines the horrors of enslavement for white people, which is supposedly worse somehow? Eyebrow raised. I lack neither the time or energy to get into this
