I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. Review and blog tour can be found on *Milky Way of Books*

Ah, how great is to combine a far deadlier Hunger Games-style war and immortals! And worlds beyond your imagination which are not exactly sci-fi but not completely Paranormal either!

Vale and her sister, N0la are snow-stranded in the wilderness and they find shelter in a cave where they find their way into a long-standing war.
The All-War.

From there both sisters become entangled with battles, immortals who are hell-bent into destroying each other in order to win for their rulers.

And as Vale partners with Knox in order both to fight together, save Vale's sister and discover what powers Vale has, everything will become even more complicated.
What I loved on this book was the pure action. It felt like a movie you couldn't stop watching as everyone fought with every imaginable weapon! Knox was an amazing fighter as also Vale despite her need to train.

At the same time, I also enjoyed the refreshing plot and the vast possibilities of how this series can evolve. I kept counting in my mind how many books there might be here and the number even went up to 20.

Also, the heated level of swoon-ness here is scorching. While I still have my qualms into how Knox and Vale came to become a couple, and also how both became idiotic over each other (thus the missing star), I enjoyed their banter and the way they slowly opened up to each other. Knox's background story was tragic too.

One last part I am anxiously waiting over will surely be the second book where Bane, Zion and Nola will be featured. And while Zion has a brotherly role in the book, he may be hiding more than he shows.

This is my first book by Gena Showalter and OMFG WHY HAVE I WAITED! Her attention to detail, let alone the concept she has come up with this book has my mind blown and dying for more! Her words are pure gold. While the book is a little slow out of the gates, the build up is worth it as you have an interesting take on a battle royale with winner take all. I love the banter between Vale and Knox and how things played out for these two. While there is a lot of information thrown at you in this book, please wait it out. I found it overwhelming at times but it made sense in the long run. I love chemistry as well as the lore that created this book. If you want something unique, snag up this one!

I’m really eager to see more from this series, because each contender comes from a completely different world and are so different. I do wish we got to see Knox kill his king in this but I can tell there will be more from him since his son is in the war too, which is also a thing I like, the other wars going on mean there’s room for more and more people, they could even throw people in later and start another one lol.

Now to wait forever for the next one lol

A weak start to the series. The FMC comes across like a horny idiot. I enjoyed the action, but I think Showalter has issues with making the action as clear the the character shifts. I liked the sci fi elements and the violence in contrast to the romance.

Being a big fan of her Lords of the Underworld series, I was looking forward to read Shadow and Ice, the first book in the Gods of War series. This is a little different from her norm, it was like a hardcore Hunger Games with blood thirsty immortals from different planets, killing each other to conquer Earth.

Knox is a powerhouse of an immortal, able to control shadows with his mind, he has already won four All Wars for his king and wants to win his fifth and finally gain his freedom. Nothing will get in his way, until him and his fellow combatants get imprisoned in ice for centuries. As I read about Knox, I fell in love with this sex god bad boy. A veteran to the All Wars, he is not ready to lose no matter how many centuries passed since his imprisonment. He finds himself in a new situation though, being attracted by his enemy. Knox is definitely powerful, not afraid to die, determined to win, tattooed, well hung, arrogant, protective yet supportive. Vale is his total opposite, she is a funny, tough but insecure heroine who gets sucked into a crazy, scary and bloody war full of massive immortals who want her dead. I liked how she panicked but still took it all in stride and went with it because she didn't have a choice and chose to fight for her life and her planet. She is far from stupid, she adapted to her new life quickly and never backed down.

Their relationship was explosive. In and out of bed, very hot! The sex scenes were gory but also steamy, they were everything:

"What do you want to be when you're free?"
"I...don't know. Do it. Tell her.
"I only know I want every inch of my shaft buried inside you."

It was sexy but not only. Vale and Knox made it work, it wasn't easy because in this war betrayal is easier than love and love is dangerous. I absolutely loved seeing their feelings develop, especially with Knox because being who he is, he never got to have someone for himself and seeing him realize that he could, that love always finds a way no matter your circumstances, was amazing and so satisfying.

My only issue was I don't know what it was, but I had to put the book down a few times and take a break because of the pacing, that's why it was given 4 stars. Maybe I just needed more sex/romance! I know that's not what it was written for, but they were so hot together, I just NEEDED it!
