The relationship between the two main characters is challenging to read about. Although I am not familiar with BDSM this book was obviously trying to portray a master/slave dynamic which although it is not something that interests me I am not someone to judge something that is bringing fulfilment to someone’s else’s life. And as their truly are people who need this kind of dynamic in their personal relationships in real life I certainly am not going to be disrespectful to those who have these kinds of needs to be able to get through their day, especially those who have experienced trauma or have felt unwanted like our main female character has. That being said I don’t like the way the BDSM side of the relationship is written by this author. Instead of it being about the submissive giving over control to the dom and the dom taking care of them in all the ways they need the author writes it as the sub constantly getting disciplined for no reason most of the time just so the dom can show the sub who is in control. The little I know about the BDSM lifestyle a huge part of it is the care side that the sub needs. Meaning showing love, kindness, reducing their stress ect by them voluntarily handing over control trusting (trust is huge in these relationships as you can imagine it would need to be if someone has control over a big part of your life/relationship) knowing the dom will do everything in their power to fulfill all their needs, most of which are not sexual but the author seems to forget the caring aspect and focus purely on sex and ‘discipline’. It really is a shame that people seem to think being abusive towards someone just because you don’t want to care about them is sexy. No it is not. Please if you’re going to write these kinds of books do your research and show a bit of all sides not just parts you think seem most sexy/shocking.
