Sam Dryden, ex-Special Forces, finds himself in the grip of insomnia and decides to go for a run in the middle of the night only to encounter a girl, Rachel, who is terrified and being pursued by several men who are trying to kill her. First thing first, Dryden doesn't hesitate in using all his skills to get her away from the threat. Once there is a moment to pause does he start to piece together her story-why she can't remember anything other than the past two-months, how it is possible that she can read his thoughts and why the government is panicking until this 12-yr-old girl is dead.

This is a classic adrenaline read. It grabs your attention from the first moment and throws lots of twists and action as you move through the story. Despite the incredibly high pace-there is enough character development to give you a glimpse of what each character brings to the table. Hold on-this is a scary if you think about it, relevant and intense read.

It's strange how sometimes I read a book that I think is excellent (great writing, great plot), but I get bored with it and have a hard time finishing it; while other times I read an "OK" book that I absolutely can't put down. This was one of those latter types. I've read all four of Patrick Lee's books, along side numerous other books by top-tier authors. While I wouldn't hold out Lee's writing as among the best (still solid 3-4 stars), I get really engrossed in his very creative and suspenseful plots. I'll keep reading his books....

The question that begged to be asked all throughout the book was answered on the very last page. Very enjoyable and engaging.

The best thriller I have read in a long, long time! It was non-stop action, and I loved the main characters. Sam Dryden is a man who has suffered a horrible loss. He's been alone for a long time. No family. No friends. He's just been going through the motions, until a young girl comes crashing into his life. Literally. Rachel has been trapped inside a facility for two months, being interrogated in her sleep. She has no memory of her life before this facility. All she knows is that people are afraid of what she can do, and what she knows. After escaping, she runs into Sam, who saves her life. Together, they try to figure out who Rachel is, why people are trying to kill her, and what it is about her that makes them so afraid. Good stuff!

I thought the book started great. Unfortunately, it has a twist of furturistic kinda stuff that does not interest me. It was very hard for me to ge through this one.
