Wow. Wow. Wow. Kate Burkholder, former Amish, now Chief of Police in Painter's Mill comes face to face with her past... or does she? She and her team race the clock to solve the brutal murder before the serial killer takes his next victim. Really well written book and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

I have read some of this series, and not others, so I decided I would start with the 1st one in the Kate Burkholder Series and read them all in order.  This way I figure I will not skip one.

Kate Burkholder is the Police Chief of Planters Mill, Ohio.  She grew up Amish but moved to the English world at 17.  She has a secret she has kept since she was 14.  Now, there is a seial killer in town.  Will she have to reveal her secret, or will the killer be caught before then?

😊 Happy Reading 😊

it was a good pull style read. the story relies a bit too much on shocking depictions of the crimes than what i usually am into. i found the interplay between amish and “english” culture i interesting and wish that had been more of the focus. i also wasn’t into the procedural side of the story as much. it felt uninteresting and cliche at times

Interesting thriller setting, speaks a lot about Ohio Amish population. But, absolutely jarring and gruesome description about murders of young women and girls. Dialogue and side characters were simplistic, and certain overused phrases were repeated across POVs. Not recommended

Well-paced, interesting protagonist and supporting characters + good mystery.
There's also mix of personal secrets and stories unravelling throughout the story for a few characters that goes well with the main story (I personally wanted to know all right away, but made sense it was slowly drawn out while as the reader you're still getting to know the characters and deciding what you think of them). Enjoyed the actual detecting that happened - you can follow along as they are following each of the leads.
There are a few bits of graphic violence described (related to the mysteries) - right at beginning & few times in the book (a reader warning, no specific spoiler). The base location for the story contributes to the mystery too (it wouldn't necessarily make sense without those factors, including the Amish influence).
Didn't realize it was a series, definitely would read more. Recommended to someone right before I started & they ended up finishing before me - also had high regards!
