This story picks up approximately 20 years after the first book, An English Bride in Scotland, but I don’t think it’s necessary to read that one to understand this one. For the first third of this book, Cam and Joan are on their own with nobody to muck up their building feelings and it’s wonderful. Things get a bit zany once they reach their destination, which I was anticipating after reading that first book. But there’s only one head bonk in this one!
When Cam and Joan deliver her message and proceed to his home, they find the castle full of eligible women. Some dangerous situations crop up for Joan as these other women aren’t keen on more competition. Some are kind, some are mean, and some are strange. One woman seems to faint at least once a day and it’s somehow hilarious the way the others react to her falling over. It seems many of these same ladies will feature in the future books and I’m looking forward to that.
This book was almost as much fun as the first book. The chemistry is on point, the bedroom scenes are hot (although rarely occur in an actual bedroom), and it kept me engaged.
