This may be from a YA series, but it is pretty dark dealing with torture, suicidal ideation, murder, and various forms of trauma. With that said, it is not graphic and the story is compelling.

My inner 13 year old boy and my normal everyday me both freakin' LOVE these books. They are awesome.

2019 review:
Fun middle-grade adventure story, but didn't do much for me as an adult. I'm sure I would've enjoyed it more as a child, so I'm not going to rate it. (But I will say that Roderick Gordon should probably take some lessons on how to write female characters. That's all.)
