I really did not enjoy this book. The whole premise was very weird and basically copied from George Orwell. The writing style was so simple it was just boring and exhausting to read. The author also has weird views on the medical system, that are very present in this book. All the symbols and metaphors are very on the nose. There was a weird “half love story” mixed in, that just didn’t fit into the story at all.
1.5 because it had a lesbian kiss halfway through.

This is a dystopian novel that follows on from 1984, Brave New World, and Brazil with a society insistent on monitoring every citizen’s health data to prevent and avoid disease and illness of any kind - and punishing anyone who steps outside this. There’s a bureaucratic legal process, and a lack of care for the women characters which extends to bodily violence. It was a quick read but missing something deeper than the familiar cynicism of the protagonists.

The premise was stupid, the plot fairly predictable, and the references fairly cheap. Additionally the writing style was just so pretentious in my opinion, that I got annoyed by it. Even the "plottwists" were so uninteresting that I had to power through the book.
In German I'd say: Juli Zeh schrieb Schwurbler*innenscheiße, bevor es überhaupt 'cool' war Schwurbler*in zu sein. Hätte nicht sein müssen.

I don't know what else to say.
