The blurb on the back of the book is kind of misleading as the main focal point of the story is different than we're lead to believe. It was an okay read, but it does at times get bogged down with unnecessary backstories of characters that are mostly on the sidelines, and sometimes the backstories get repeated in a way that almost feels copy pasted. There's several pages about how Kit's friend is annoyed with some of the nanny's bad habits, but that never really leads anywhere, and could certainly have been dropped without affecting the story in any way. I honestly think the book could have been trimmed down to roughly half and not have lost anything from the main storyline.
