As usual Beaton bangs on about smoking, "global warming" (as she calls it) and faux fur. Particularly nasty was her remark that a domestic violence victim was "eminently beatable". Very unpleasant

Ends very abruptly. There’s a whole “Sweeney Todd” storyline I could’ve done without since it was more of a subplot

Oh Agatha, Agatha - will you never learn? Apparently not, and perhaps that's why we love her, but it would be nice to see some emotional growth in our beloved Agatha Raisin.

This is a typical Agatha Raisin novel - mildly amusing narrative, outrageous plot, Agatha on the prowl for a husband and jealous of young Toni. This book requires no effort to read. For the die-hard Agatha Raisin fan. Not for someone new to the series.

I read a Netgalley advance copy of The Blood of an Englishman.

One of those series that you must read every single one, even when they all start to sound alike. You just keep going.

Set in the Cotswolds, Agatha Raisin mysteries are a combination of cozy mystery and comedy. Agatha is embroiled in a case if murders after attending an amateur theater production gone wrong. Enjoyable.

If the author was intending to write a spoof for detective fiction (in a golden age setting), she has succeeded.

I enjoyed the quickly turning of events as this book moved along. It was almost as if we were following a zigzag pattern on a map. We would head off down One Direction investigating down that direction, only to be stopped dead and turned around and head up in a completely different direction. This book definitely kept me guessing
I was not prepared for the gruesome murders, I could’ve given it one less star just for those all by themselves. I could say it was an appropriate book to read around Halloween time though.

I continue to empathize and feel badly for Agatha in her search for Mr. Right. It seems that the author is trying to make a point that sometimes looking too hard makes you miss seeing what is right in front of you.

I also understand the mindset of Agatha who needs to have an obsession at all times, and she is not afraid to chase after it, even if she might fail miserably. I can see where that would make her a very good detective. You have to test your theories, even when everyone else thinks that it’s crazy and you are crazy for thinking it. She appears to go against the grain in this book many times over, like usual, and just goes off instinct and crazy guesses sometimes.
I was shocked to see the multiple attempts on her life in this book however. The author seems to have been trying to increase the drama, which wasn’t normal when compared to some of her other mysteries.
