350 pages of heartache. It’s hard to overstate the deft way that Yezierska captures bitterness and yearning. Her prose is concise to a fault but loves to spring hope on you. My one complaint here is that the stories do fall into sounding a bit the same but the collection ends on some bangers written later in life and it’ll leave you with a pain in your soul.
