I loved every story. Each of them made me feel seen and disturbed. And that very last line - all I can say is wow.
Moderate: Body horror, Chronic illness, Eating disorder, Emotional abuse, Mental illness, Sexual assault, Toxic relationship, Vomit, and Medical content

A scathing collection of short stories. I tend to hate stories about sad straight women who have shitty boyfriends, so it’s extra impressive that Bhat kept me hooked with a collection that contained a few of those. The trespasses were more meaningful and more real than those stories usually manage, and there was a strong spine and undercurrent of anger in all of the narrative voices. Bhat peels the surface layer off of everyday interactions to reveal the squirming underbelly of casual misogyny, facing it with a righteous rage that metastasizes into self-compassion rather than the less satisfying outlets of violence or self-pity. Unsurprisingly, my favourite was the lightly speculative “Giantess.”
Moderate: Sexual assault
