Daisy Hastings doesn't find life easy. When she's LARPing with her family and neighbours, she commands armies with ease, but as plain old Daisy she barely manages to leave the house due to her anxiety. But when she lands a job at a summer school for knights in training at the Tower of London, she decides to give real life a go once again. Cue a loveable but eccentric housemate called Bobble and some hilarious children to train as 'knights'.

Theodore 'Teddy' Fairfax is a member of the aristocracy but the press just keeps managing to catch him in compromising situations. As a result, his family have sent him to help at the summer school, but he is determined to cause as much chaos as he can! In as many ways as Daisy is trying to make it work, Teddy is trying to break it.  Will he realise he is harming Daisy's self confidence in every act of defiance before it is too late and she gets fired?

We briefly met Teddy as an old friend of Freddie in Megan Clawson's previous novel, Falling Hard for the Royal Guard, but this is very much a standalone story. But I'd be remiss to not compare the two books a little.  Firstly, I really enjoyed both books. They're nice, easy going romances with a bit of swearing but no spice, but I did feel that this one had better developed characters, which is probably no surprise given that FHFTRG was a debut novel! There's better chemistry in this one for a start. Teddy is the classic give no shits, condescending bad boy at the start, but as they get to know each other and Daisy gives him plenty of sass (mainly when she's channelling her alter-ego Lady A), they become tentative friends.

I loved that we returned to the Tower of London again for this one, and between the history facts and the LARPing, its a subtly nerdy book which is great! I also enjoyed the character detail of Daisy being neurodivergent, and that her family and Bobble completely support her quirks. She's a relatable character and it's obvious that the author has included her own experiences as a neurospicy person too.   Its a lovely enemies to lovers romance, perfect for those that are a bit nerdy and that enjoy sweet characters with a bit of snark but no spice.

This was such a fun and heartwarmingly romantic read. I adored our neurodivergent protagonist Daisy, and loved that she was the knight who (thanks to her daring alter ego Lady A) never faltered at besting her foes— come rain, shine or even during work hours.

It was refreshing to see a FMC that wasn’t a damsel and I loved the slow burn build up we get of the chemistry ladened rivalry between Daisy and Teddy. Their banter was soo entertaining, in that swoon worthy way that had me rooting for them both almost immediately.

I loved quite a few of the supporting characters too; Bobble, Daisy’s twin Samwise and the rag tag members of the Friskney Fellowship were all such endearingly entertaining characters and I’d honestly love to see more of them (especially Bobble) in a future book.

If you’re searching for a quick, compelling and utterly entertaining summer romance (full of geeky references and an introverted heroine you’ll absolutely love) then I definitely recommend checking this out— especially if your partial to the enemies to lovers trope.

I enjoyed Falling Hard for the Royal Guard, but didn't love it. With that in mind, I thought that Love at First Knight sounded very interesting. It was. It was also not the lighthearted rom-com I was expecting. It's impossible to root for Teddy to win (you'll see when you read it), and I wasn't a huge fan of Daisy.

Relatable neurodivergent, anxious FMC. Loveable, funny love interest. Lots of family and friend love and acceptance. Brilliant fun with the mix of reality and fantasy and LARPing.
