SPOILERS AHEAD:
3.8 for me. This book didn’t really leave anything to the imagination, it most definitely ticked all of the boxes of being a gruesome horror novel. What took me out of it was the expectation around it being some love story? But the main character is abusive and is attempting to gather his dead wife, not because of an undying desire to protect her, but rather control her even in death.

I am highly critical of DV books and I guess I was personally disappointed in this depiction because it felt so poorly done. With that being said, good on Emely to fight her fight the only way she could, Ellis got what he deserved.

Weird. But I loved it so much. I also love that exquisite corpse was mentioned. So good!

WTF was this? I'm not sure I can recommend this - it was gruesome, disturbing, beyond dark and I had to skim over some of the more graphic sections, but I did finish it. Not for the squeamish. The plot did keep me intrigued and it was a quick read. This was more like a gory car accident I didn't want to see but I still kept looking.

Shocking, horrifying, and probably one of the most disgusting books around. I haven’t read many extreme horror/ splatterpunk novels, but this one might be the most f-ed up one yet. There are no heroes in this story. This novel pushes boundaries and forces you to acknowledge the depravity of mankind. The writing held me captive: as much as I didn’t want to continue reading it, I had to know how it was going to end! Motel Styx makes you question where the threshold for deviance and perversion in the real world lies… the whole concept of this book is an ethical abomination but man, it a crazy read!

It’s like they tried to copy Tender is the Flesh but it was way worse.
