it has good plot-twist! even though I had suspected from her, it was good to read it, to know exactly what's happening...
Elise Kova writes the characters like they're alive and I'm kinda watching them, I can visualize things when I read but in these series, including Air Awakens series, it was so different, so real feeling... it's been long time since I've felt this way about a series of books. loved it.

in way Vi's naïve because of her good heart and think that no one can dare to harm her, kinda, so she didn't expected that betrayal.
But... I was suspected of Jayme from the beginning when she had arrived the palace and when Andru said that he saw her with a blond women I kinda become sure of it... so... I think Jayme was so obvious; on her anger towards Vi because she was always talking with her like she was the one to giving the orders, she was always tough when she was talking by saying that "I'm here to protect you, let me do my job", "tell me everything" while she said nothing about herself. and she was always trying to move Vi from the evidences she can see or did see in that moment.
and felt a bit weird that Vi never thought that she was harsh on her; even when Vi asked her that why she didn't said before that Daniel was her father, she started to yell at her like it's Vi's families fault that what happened to Daniel and Vi immediately backdown and started to think that she should apologies. she shouldn't! because what was happened in the main books wasn't an ordinary situation and Daniel choose on his own to stay and also Vhalla said to him...

and also as I said my previous review I'm still suspecting on Taavin and really didn't want their relationship to turn like Vhalla and Mad King, that he would use her power to his own gain etc. so kinda afraid that it would happen in the next book because I saw the signs...

I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*

Chosen champion was a sequel worthy of its characters and full of unstoppable movemtn and action. As Vi tries to find a way to reachTaavin, the danger of the epidemic of the White Death spreads and no one is safe anymore. There are many twists and turns in this book with mysyteries and prophecies that may or may not come true.

I also fear that Taavin knows that either he or Vi will dies but I can't confirm it. I hope for the best. There is a plot twist I didn't see it coming and a cliffhanger that made me demand more! I seriously can't wait for the final (?) book in the series!

"Ultimately, the outcome of her gamble would determine how history remembered her: brave or selfish. Loved or hated."

A great sequel to Vortex Visions. Chosen Champion took us on an adventure - a chase across the main continent all the way to a small ship on wild seas. In therms of plot, this second book was a bit more adventurous and fast paced, but for me, I preferred Vortex Visions because there was something more mysterious about the storyline there, while this book sometimes felt like getting from this destination (point A) to the final destination (point B). It sometimes felt like an in-between book, especially in the second half. Overall I had fun with it and the plot was at parts very gripping. Excited for the sequel!

"Nothing was guaranteed or certain. The world would rob them blind on a whim."

SpoilerOn a bit of a negative note: I disliked the turn Jayme's character had taken. It reduced a complex character into a one dimensional villain, that is for the few minutes until Vi killed her. I didn't necessarily mind that there turned out to be more than Jayme was telling Vi, I expected something more for a long time, but I didn't expect for Jayme to be reduced to this one dimensional stupidly blind hatred, not towards someone she has known for so long. And now it turns out she has felt cold towards Vi, always hated her, all this time? No. Things are so much more complex than that. She turned into a cartoon sort of villain for the plot twist, which made a disservice to her (and her father's character who we've met in Air Awakens series). She was one of the few - and the only main one - important Vortex Chronicles characters that weren't rich and now one of the reasons why she turned into a villain was this: “I was never your friend. I was the help. Your messenger. Your errand girl.” and her family history. I wouldn't have even hated (at least that much) the fact that she turned against Vi if it was handled with depth and understanding. But Jayme ended up being a cartoonish villain for plot twist and the fact that the plot no longer needed her for the next book.

“Like I said, easy enough.” There was no emotion there. Not one ounce of regret.

“And now I’ll bring Adela his heir, and she will make me one of her crew,” Jayme said proudly. It was the pride that finally snapped something in Vi, the infuriating smugness that betrayed her frostbitten, blackened heart."

I didn't feel shocked I felt very much disappointed with that particular turn of events.

"They continued to speed away from everything she’d ever known, to the fate that awaited her."

So..... Vi Solaris is no Vhalla and she is no Aldrik. This princess is her own person and unlike her parents is very clear minded about her goals and not really one to jump off a cliff ( if you get the reference then yay) but I think I need her to jump off a cliff , defeat a king and brave a storm because SHE NEEDS TO LIVEN UP THIS STORY. I’m hoping this is just one of those books that slow down the story so it is not just all fast pace for the last book but man I felt this was dragging. Not that it was a bad story but where was the action??? I know there was a lot of stuff to be done before she could go off to try to save her father but man oh man this series is definitely a different pace from the Air Awakens. I am invested in Vi’s future so I will be staying tuned but I am hoping we do a lot more jumping off ships and cutting throats in the next book then we did in this one.

I KNEW IT. I FREAKING KNEW IT. JAYME! MOTHERFU—

I’m always skeptical about spin offs. I never want to attach myself to a new protagonist after having fallen in love with a previous protagonist that I invested so much time in. In this case, I still love Vi as much as I love Vhalla....

Chosen Champion really took this book in the direction I wanted/needed it to. I was fearful that Elise wouldn’t necessarily do certain things that I wanted her to; progress the romance, let Vi leave the continent, etc. but she DID!! She did it. And I couldn’t be more satisfied. 👏👏

This installment also brought with it a lot of nostalgia. Hearing about Daniel and LEARNING WHO JAYME REALLY WAS— also listening to their knowledge of the Mad King and all the past of the events—was both nostalgic and just mind blowing. AND OF COURSE VHALLA RETURNS. YESSSSS. Even if it was for a little while, I hope we do see more of her though, as well as Aldrick who I LAAAAV.

I will say I thought the death of Jayme was a little downplayed considering her betrayal was huge (maybe that’s just me?) but it didn’t take away from the story at all or my rating. I still enjoyed this IMMENSELY.

I will simply say that this installment was GREAT and a perfect reminder of why I am so invested in Elise’s books.

GIVE ME FAILED FUTURE PLSSSSSSS. 💕

literally “what the HELL” is all i can formulate for the ending of this one. unfortunately it felt very dragged out and only the last few chapters is what really captured my interest but i still enjoyed the book as a whole.
