I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I really ended up enjoying this book. I wasn't expecting much. I do judge books by their covers, and this cover doesn't do much for the book IMO. This was a great story. I really enjoyed the connection you could feel between Aiden and Thomas. The writing really builds it and makes it very believable. I felt so bad for Thomas, hating the Incubus half of himself and trying to deny it. It's an interesting substitution for repressing homosexuality. I loved Aiden's conviction and how he wasn't going to give up on Thomas without a fight. I also loved how the "gayness" wasn't the angst or issue for the couple, it seemed like a non-issue. It was all about Thomas' self loathing. Though this is a historical, I didn't really get that feel from it, if that makes sense. It's there, you know it's during and post Civil War, but it's not a huge part of the plot. I would love to read a longer or expanded version one day.
