3.5
Inertia: 4.25 🌟
The Spinners: 3.5 🌟
Hearken: 5 🌟
Vim & Vigor: 2 🌟
Armored Ones: 2.75 🌟
The Transformationist: 2.75 🌟
Note: I would NOT recommend reading Armored Ones or The Transformationist if you haven't read the Carve the Mark duology as those stories are set in the same universe.
Short stories aren't usually my thing, but The End and Other Beginnings has a few shining stars. Inertia begins mysteriously but was surprisingly emotional for me by the end. Hearken was such a unique idea that left me wanting more.
The Spinners, Armored Ones, and The Transformationist were all good, but felt ... incomplete. (I often feel this way about short stories.)
Vim & Vigor just wasn't for me. Although still sci-fi, it felt like it didn't quite fit with the rest of the stories.
Spice Level: 🔥 (Kisses & Glances)
Did I Cry? Negative, Ghost Rider

Worth a physical reading for the gorgeous illustrations.
Lots of death, but also plenty of hope. Varying quality and tone but a pleasant collection with a strong sequencing.
Hearkeners was my fave because come on: music in the wake of pandemic?

I wanted to read this book because I thought it was a collection of short stories from her previous written series such as Divergent, The Chosen Ones and Carve the Mark. However, out of the six short stories there are, two stories set in the Carve the Mark universe – which I struggle with, so I was a little bit disappointment.
The other four stories are about several different friendships/relationships. Which were all good in themselves, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting. The stories were sometimes difficult to get into as it literally starts with the event or some mythical world or some bad disease. All the other four stories had similar set up of – bad world/disease, someone they love is in trouble, figure out how to solve it or accept it, all HEA.
I would have preferred short stories from the Chosen Ones because there were so many cliff-hangers with that book and I hoped it was a series. Veronica Roth wrote one of my favourite series with Divergent but during this book, I think she struggled with writing female characters which confused me because she wrote Tris so well. I didn’t enjoy this book as well as it was set in Space, and I struggle with space books all the time.
