This book had me in tears for oh 90% of it and shout out to yet another Maryland author representing our state. Mila, newly divorced has really lost herself, and has never fully grieved her twin brother Chase. She also never forgave the boy who was responsible for the accident; her first love Ryder. So she heads back to Meade Lake for the first time in 12 years. What she finds is that Ryder has lived in his own version of hell since the accident. Taylor Denae Colbert gave us a love story that wasn’t pretty, it was rough, and very emotional. But, this book could teach anyone a lesson about loving, and letting go. I am beyond excited to read book two, and whatever is still to come from this series. If you love love a good second chance love story, but one that also is about letting go this is definitely a book for you. Add it to those TBR GoodReads lists.

Taylor Danae Colbert is a new-to-me author and, I am so glad I discovered her because I really enjoyed this book. The blurb is what made me want to read it. It pulled on my heartstrings way more than I was anticipating and it was beautiful in so many ways. Ryder and Mila took me such an emotional rollercoaster and Taylor had me feeling everything from the start. I am always a big fan of stories that can make me feel something and I felt it all while reading this story. I could feel the anger, sadness, love and forgiveness these characters felt. There were also some twists along the way which took my breath away.
It was so easy to step into the shoes of the characters. The writing is so immersive and the characters have wonderful development. They are full of so much depth and they grow as the story progresses. I could really feel everything that the characters were feeling right along with them.
Back To Shore is a masterfully written book that digs into your soul and tugs at the heartstrings. Taylor Danae Colbert enamored me with her characters and their personalities, as well as the picturesque town where Meade Lake nestled. A heartwarming and heart wrenching love story with characters I fell in love with and a storyline that grabs you in.

Oh my heart! My introduction to this author had to result in tears??? The story starts with Mila's divorce. She seemed so disconnected--from life, her now ex-husband, her family. She has blamed Ryder for the last 12 years for her twin brother Chase's death. When she embarked on her journey to healing and forgiveness, she discovered more than who was responsible for Chase's death. Most importantly, she discovered herself and her capabilities and the realization that she really has been floating through life with no set destination. Being with Ryder, sharing her pain, discovering his secrets becoming Mila... all this pulled her back to shore.
And that little twist toward the end, the one that got my tears flowing. Good one, Taylor! Can't wait to read more of your well-crafted stories!
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

I liked this, the way the story is told felt different? I’m not sure how, but I felt different. This book is a second chance romance, which is not my favorite trope but I loved it. I felt the butterflies and it was sweet. I didn’t like that this was more tell than show cause I think the circumstances needed the showing part, it was a difficult situation. The book is a quick read, but I enjoyed it. Didn’t totally fell in love with it, but it was nice.
I have to say though... Annabelle?? wth?? it was so unexpected and it actually felt weird that Ryder didn’t say anything. And the scene where Ryder falls and noticed what he lost??? My heart broke. That man suffered a lot. But he still managed to be the sweetest guy. He was so cute. I’m kind of indifferent towards Mila, but she was okay.

Back to Shore delivers an emotive tale of second chances after a lifetime of regret. Bring tissues.
Mila loved Ryder as a teen, but when Ryder causes an accident that kills Mila's brother, she turned her back on him, too hurt to be around Ryder. So, we are starting off super sad right out of the gate. But then we see Mila and Ryder grown up, and things are not good. Both are suffering and Mila wants to forgive Ryder and mend things.
Ok, there were some surprises in the plot I didn't see coming, so kudos to Colbert for that! I was not expecting some of the events and I was SHOOK. What I think most readers will connect with is the intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships and growth. Both Mila and Ryder are finally in a place where they can begin to accept what happened and realize the negative impact all the anger is playing in their lives and this story is their catharsis. The plot vacillates between the past and the present, so you are learning their history in pieces, and then you see how those pieces affect their present.
Fans of second chances (both in love and life), emotional stories, and character growth, Back to Shore needs to be on your TBR! The characters are broken and flawed, but reflective and dynamic. But, I wasn't kidding about the tissues. This one really sucker punched me. I think this emotive story will draw so many readers; for me, it was too emotional. That is the reason for my lower rating. It's beautifully written and a very powerful story, but I don't tend to like the intense emotional reads. Back to Shore just kept punching me in the feels and I didn't really want that.

This was an emotional story. Both sad and happy.
Ms. Colbert built wonderful characters that I enjoyed spending hours with. Young love gone bad. Experience makes us realize, sometimes you need to forgive and open up your heart. Sometimes you find the one your are fated to be with; what do you lose when you give that up? Lots!
Ryder and Mila need to fight hard to regain their long lost love. I battled right along side them!
