I refrained from pre-reading this before sharing it with my class and I’m so pleased I did. Sharing it with them was magical, as the pages unfolded they all started reading and pointing to things immediately. It grabbed them with the gorgeous illustrations and accessible text. Fabulous book.

Loved everything about this book! The information on its own was engaging, but the book layout...made it so much more enjoyable!

Beautifully illustrated book as we journey to the earths core and back.
Unconventional layout, where the book opens into one long page.
Great for children to learn more about the earth, and what lies beneath our feet.

A large accordian discussing what you can see through the layers of the earth to the center and then back out again.

Nice book but it does talk several times about millions of years. They could have left that out and it would have been a fantastic book.

Review is for the Dutch version ‘De grond onder je voeten’
Prachtig.

This journey through the layers of the earth is breathtaking in its scope and simplicity, its speed and its content. My son is too young, yet to appreciate the story, but he seemed to be fascinated by the illustrations. Everything from sewer pipes to subway tunnels to electric conduits to fossils and roots and beyond is covered, right down to the core of the planet and back out the other side. The format of the book is fascinating as well, something I had not encountered before. It made for a slightly more difficult reading but was worth it for the interest it added to the topic.
I certainly recommend it for anyone who wants to introduce young readers to the layers of the earth and the wonders they may contain.

October 2017 - totally fascinating for both of us! A tiny bit more text than Ben was interested in - he was mostly interested in pointing out all kinds of things he recognized, plus he asked lots of questions about things further down the page. So fun to fold up all the pages, and then work your way back to the surface with new details. Definitely one to pore over.
