This was supposed to be a funny take on the monarchy living like normal people, right. Like Schitt's Creek, RIGHT?! I found it hard to sympathise with the penniless royals, especially seeing how their rampant racism has been on the forefront in recent memory. I just could not disentangle the images of Charles and Diana from the characters in the book. But there are two reasons this dropped down from a pretty forgettable 3 star to a definitive 1 star. First: the royals are put into a neighbourhood with people receiving welfare and living in poverty. What really disgusted me was the way their actually helpful and accomodating neighbours were described. They are fat, disgusting, uneducated people who are constantly derided for not wearing fitting clothes, having dirty homes and not speaking proper English. WTF! Second: that ending is a joke and frankly rude! I sit through 260 pages for it all being a silly nightmare the Queen has had
