I love this series! Any book that starts with the client dropping dead on page one gets you hooked pretty fast.

"Barker pushed himself up to a standing position, looking down at what I presumed was our new client...It was unlikely we would send him an invoice."

I am also loving the progression and growth of the characters--I hope this series goes on for a long time!

My favorite series!!! I absolutely love these characters! This world of Barker and Llewellyn that Thomas has created for us...just perfection! I always describe this series as the world of Sherlock Holmes, but with loveable and likeable characters.

Thomas’s wife gets more annoying every freakin book. He should’ve married the lady detective.

While it has all the trappings of a police procedural, all the sleuthing of the titular characters leads to nothing but assorted red herrings. The motive is dropped suddenly into their laps in the 28th chapter (out of 32), the murderer in the 29th (who is then promptly confronted and dispensed with in the 30th), and they spend the last two chapters dithering about whether one of these characters will suddenly move to China??!! Very weirdly constructed whodunnit. Reading reviews, it sounds like the series used to be better and people are now only reading (and highly rating) out of habit. Unfortunately, this was my first (and now last) Barker & Llewelyn novel.
