I liked this book, it kept me intrigued. Had quite a bit of language, more than I usually put up with. The author was 22 when she wrote the book, and is the daughter of Ireland's Prime minister. Now I want to see the movie.

Waaaaaay different from the movie, which made it all the more amazing. I usually hate when movies don't follow the book, but this one was so dramatically different that I didn't even associate them while I was reading.

Not in the head space for this currently. It triggered anxious thoughts and I did not like it. The story was really compelling, I’m just not in the right place at the moment.

I really enjoyed reading this. I had watched the movie way before I ever read the book and I can say that if you can't reasonably keep the movie out of your head while reading this then you won't enjoy it. The book and movie are almost nothing alike. Some of the names are the same, but it all (except for the vacation) takes place in Ireland. No one is from America in this. But that doesn't mean that one or the other are bad because of it. The book has so much more depth than the movie and that's just because it's a book. Plus if Hollywood does anything it has to Americanize it some how. So just bear all that in mind when you go to read this book. Both are good but very different.

Interesting premise but the book could have used an editor with a heavier hand. A lot of expository (telling) writing and a fair amount of distracting head hopping. The end felt as though the author acknowledged that at 400 pages (with 70 pages to go) she'd beat wrap up the narrative and wrap it up fast, which is to say the end feels rushed and hastily resolved.

P.S I love you Cecilia Ahern.... your book always amaze me :)

Twas a solid “meh” for me. Many of the characters, especially Holly, came off as very vapid, rude, and spoiled. She treated her friends and family horribly. I know the author was young when she wrote this, and it very much shows. I wish that there was more depth to her relationship with Gerry because he was the only character that I actually cared about and we got so little of him. It could have been so much more emotionally-charged than it was.

Writing-wise, my gripes are:

1. I dislike how the author would jump to different POVs without any transitions or warnings, as that was a tad confusing.

2. There was no build up or real climax to the story? Events just…happened.. and then the book ended.

Idk. I just feel like the concept had so much promise but the execution fell flat for me.

description
