A reflective and powerful read. Reveals the connections and complexities of family life, hardship, loss and literature. Behrendt weaves together a mother daughter relationship to reveal the headache of the past and the hope of the future. Would definitely recommend!

A fascinating read about a mother and daughter finding themselves and each other a thousand miles away in other people's homes.

I liked this book. Something different wo what I would tend to read I think. It did get slow towards the middle then jumped back up again. I did feel there was a little confusion especially going back over some dialogue between the mum and daughter views and gave a feeling of repetitiveness. But the building of the characters and their relationship as well as the learning perspective of the literature tour. I did feel that the actual story got lost a little and was side tracked due to the literature tour but overall it's was a pleasant read
Please look at some trigger warnings before reading due to child abuse, sexual abuse and racism.
