Afterstory follows an Aboriginal woman and her daughter on a literary tour through England. The two have a complicated relationship impacted by colonisation and racism, sexual abuse and a terrible family tragedy. The dynamic between the two felt authentic and I loved the way they grew closer over the trip, and how it led them to a newfound appreciation of and confidence in traditional cultural knowledge. I enjoyed the information about some titans from the western literary canon, but loved how they were not canonised. Della especially, engaged with this information in a down to earth manner and through the lens of her own cultural knowledge. A thoroughly satisfying read.

A warming read. Having both the mother and daughter's perspectives of the trip was an evocative touch and an evocative way to explore experience and the plurality truth. A beautiful story which I will re-read. Note - the audio version does not contain the reading list that the paper version has.
