I am a huge fan of Barbara Wood and I love me some family sagas. It was so fascinating to follow the Rasheed family through the years living in Cairo. Not gonna lie, I was frustrated with so many missed love connections and the whole will they won't they? I was disappointed in some of the family story endings and happier with others.

I went into this book expecting something entirely different--a retelling of Mohammed's story, perhaps?--but I was not disappointed with the narrative. The women of this book are all fascinating, even the ones I came to dislike. I don't have enough of a background in Middle Eastern history to know if Barbara Wood got the details right, but the book felt well-researched. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes dramatic works with strong female leads.

I love this sort of generational saga. You learn so much about the culture through one family's ordeal in it. Loved reading.

I read this book twice already. The first time was when i was still in high school and it really touched me.Back in the day, I would have given it a 5 star. Now that I am 24, I would give it a 3 star. It is still really touching, but not as much as before.

It is definitely a must read
