I’m all about the smut and felt for Mellie, but this book had waaaayyyyyy too much going on. Too many secondary character back stories that took away from the main plot were being crammed in, and it just did not work.

I floved this book! It was angsty, intriguing, lovey, and steamy! Smith Porter is everything you want in a book boyfriend 😍and I loved seeing Mary and Brandon pop up!

This book had good parts, but it was too dark for me. The short blurb sounded so cute, but I didn't look at the genre that said it is suspense. The chapters regarding her abduction were hard for me to read. Overall it was fine, not something I would recommend.

In search of a thriller with a lot of romance? Look no further, Anna Brooks has written this series based in Pleasant Valley, and this first book, Fixing Fate will fill the bill. While we meet many characters in this story, this one is based on Mellie. She is trying to recover from an attack that happened when she was in high school, but fear is always gripping her. When she decides to renovate a home she inherited, her brother Jay's friend, Smith comes to help her out. If love at first sight is real, you can feel it happening right then. With Mellie's attacker now out of jail and on the loose, she is in need of protection and Smith is there to keep her safe. Will her fears become a reality? Brooks has woven this tale of suspense with so many intricate morsels, it becomes hard to know who to trust and if Smith will be able to protect her. This story of survival and healing will capture your interest from the first chapter and keep you entranced until the very end.
Narration by Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan is amazing. Their interpretation of this book is spot on and exactly as I would imagine each of the characters to be. There is so much emotional turmoil, fear and love that even with the vast array of emotions, the performances were so believable, you could see the tears, feel the love and enjoy the happily ever after.

This is an emotional story but one I enjoyed very much. Mellie has been through hell in her short life, not once but twice. She’s trying to rebuild her world after it keeps crashing down on her but fate has other ideas. Smith lost everything and has rebuilt himself but the last thing he wants is to ever love anyone again. He’s immediately distraught by his instant attraction to Mellie. She’s his best friend’s little sister so she’d be off limits even if he wasn’t determined to be a loner forever.
There was a lot going on with this plot but Anna Brooks laid it out perfectly. Despite the action and fast pace, there were no plot holes and the story moved at just the right speed. The thriller aspect to this book is phenomenal but I loved the romance also because Smith and Mellie are excellent characters. This was my first book by this author, but I’m definitely going to check out more.
