The plainly stated autobiography of a trans woman put through the wringer of medical/psychiatric transphobia. There are some harrowing descriptions of day-to-day life in mental hospitals in here. Bookended by analysis from Some Guy whose empathy, open-mindedness, and willingness to criticize dogma of the time surprised me. The conclusion is worth reading if you want to get infuriated by the pathologizing psychiatrists do in their "diagnoses" of Jane. She alludes to some of the bullshit she puts up with from doctors throughout her account, but reading their actual words is another level of rage-inducing entirely. Freud has done irreperable damage to humanity.
