What a heartwarming story about a girl starting new and the owl she finds (though, they both rescue each other, really). I’m a sucker for alternating narrators, so that drew me in too. A great read!

Reenie and Rufus are both in foster care. Reenie is living with her Aunt Bea while her mom gets help and Rufus is an owl who has struggled to fly off on his own. Though Aunt Bea usually only takes care of falcons, Reenie and Bea take in Rufus and help him heal and hunt. Both Reenie and Rufus need to learn to trust and feel comfortable in their new settings. Will they be able to fly free when they're ready or are their attachments too strong?

I think 4th-6th grade readers will love this and I look forward to introducing it to my students!

Emotional. Inspiring.

Reenie and Rufus came into each other's lives at the perfect time. The bond they develop really tugged at my heart strings and I found myself crying a lot in this book. Sad tears and happy tears both. What a beautiful story of friendship, even if it is between a young girl and a young owlet. Beautifully done.
