A perfectly passable murder plot and a unique point of view character are about all this book has going for it. I found McEwan's constant polemics interminable and dull. Graphic sex scenes added to the challenge. At least it's short!
Graphic: Confinement, Infidelity, Sexual content, Death of parent, and Pregnancy
Moderate: Violence and Murder
Minor: Alcoholism, Body horror, Death, Gore, Sexual assault, Transphobia, Xenophobia, Islamophobia, Car accident, and Death of parent

Middle-aged white author disillusioned by post-structuralism makes an unborn foetus the obnoxious mouthpiece for his ill-conceived (pardon the pun) political gripes. These views might be forgivable coming from a foetus who, having never experienced the world first-hand, can be expected to get a few things muddled. McEwan, however, remains wilfully an asshole.
Moderate: Transphobia and Islamophobia
