I read this book every few months. Keeps me happy! Keeps me grounded.

Some stellar poems in here. But they are all propelled by wild juxtaposition and they all have the same shape on the page and so they all start to blend into one giant goose chase through Christle's psyche. And I mean, I'm into that. I just got lost in it after a dozen or so poems.

This collection was interesting. Just not for me. The subtle playing with words and space was interesting at times, yet I just felt listless while making my way through.

"...Fuck it / let's become caterpillars / or uncontrollable blazes / let's go set ourselves alight"

Mark Doty said these poems are one of the places to turn to if you want to know what it's like to be young and paying attention in the early 21st century, and i'm sorry for quoting him on this, but it felt very poignant.
Heather Christles poetry reads like a train of thought, streaming from one word into another and from poem to poem with invisible untangleble dots and lines connecting them. The structure of these poems has a compelling effect to the reader, and I do believe that these are the kind of poems that will resonate with you only if you read them at the right time; I could pick this collection up again and again in the future and find that every time different poems will connect with me.

My favourites from the collection are "that air of ruthlessness in spring" , "anywhere in particular" , "a handle on it" , "this is calamity hello" , "a glass of salt water" and "what we have worked for"

I'm not sure I "get it" completely, but I did enjoy her style. A worthwhile experience!

Energetic. While I couldn't really point out very many individual poems--and they were all distinct--it works so well as a collection they just all blended together beautifully.
