This was beautiful, lyrical, moving. My favorite piece of this book: "There are certain memories that remain inviolate to the ravages of time. And to those of suffering. It is not true that everything is colored by time and suffering. It is not true that they bring everything to ruin."

I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to descripe this book. On the back it's descriped as "a book about mourning, rebirth and the tenacity of the human spirit" and I find that very spot on.
It also uses the word 'meditation' about the book and it is probably the most fitting word for the reading experience. It feels a bit surreal but I came out with some quotes.
There is a little bit of a red thread through but most of it is a title of something white and a scene centered on that thing.
If you want to try something out of the ordinary but don't want to comit to too much I'll recommend this.

three main takeaways:
  1.  the pasts of our pasts can haunt the steps of our present
  2.  the paths of those who came before us, however short, are ones that allow us to continue forward
  3. your existence is a precious miracle of a thing

it was a beautifully sad book, but i think i needed to read it when i was in the right headspace for it. han kang's writing in this book is beautifully poetic, and the links between all the white things and the colour that is sprinkled throughout really enhances the reflectiveness of the space she writes from.

Powerful exploration of grief and the "what could've been." I really liked the following:
  • the direction of the light
  • breast milk
  • perpetual snow
  • blizzard
  • breath cloud
  • your eyes
  • shroud
  • all whiteness
