I shouldn't complain about a free book, but I could barely finish this romance. I had the feeling that Ortolon came to the point where the characters were going to live happily ever after, then she looked at her page count and thought the book should be longer.
I was disappointed that the heroine seemed to fall into the same problems that had caused her to break up with the hero when they were in high school. I like it better when people learn from their mistakes.
I doubt I will read the other books in the series. For whatever reason, I just couldn't get into this contemporary story.

Such a fun and yummy romance. The story has many layers and levels to the relationship. I am a sucker for reunited lovers. This book really delivers.
Maddy is a typical artist, they feel so much and second guess themselves. Thankfully that does not make her angsty. She is perfect for Joe, who is serious and organized. I love their dynamic, sure they have issues to resolve from their past, but they are great together.
The wonderful thing about these books is that a whole lot of time does not need to be spent on making the connection feel real. They already have a past that builds banked feelings. The story does work to resolve hurt feelings from a bad breakup, sometimes people need time to grow before they are a great match.
At first I did not think I would like the references to the self-help book. Turns out they were well done and matched up with the story really well. This is a romance about two people who are still a little flawed, they let outside factors influence their choices. It was interesting to see Maddy make realizations and try to change.
It is a mixed narrative, switching between the two leads POV. This is my favorite style. It gives so much insight into what they are each feeling and motivation for their actions. They both had a touch of angst to work through.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Jane Cramer, She does a great job with the pace, brisk and steady. She has consistent and distinct voices. The men could be a touch deeper, but that is me being picky. She did a great job of infusing emotion and energy into the read.
This is more of a room temperature read than a hot and spicy romp. While the bedroom door is open it is not overly detailed. More NC-17 than R rated. I enjoyed the bedroom stuff, it doesn't always have to be ultra spicy. There are times when warm and fuzzy work, this is one of those series.
Overall, the read is entertaining and has plenty of movement throughout the story. The relationship has some solid ups and downs that feel real. By the end I was totally sold on the I love yous! Sigh, I may have shed a tear or two!
Disclosure - I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.

Though this book was thoroughly enjoyable, I'm very exasperated on how this couple had trouble communicating their feelings with each other. There were plenty of times where I almost shouted at them (weird, I know, but characters in books really come to life for me and I see them as if I'm watching a movie). Of course, I really have to take in consideration their backgrounds before I judge. Still, it's so frustrating! Suffer because of not talking! Bleh! :P

I liked this book! Style is similar to Susan Mallery's, it has steam and humor. It's the first book in a trilogy about three friends who find themselves portrayed in another university room mate's book about failures to achieve your perfect life. When they face the fact that their fears prevent them from achieving their life ambitions, they make a pact to overcome their fears and give themselves a year to complete their mission. In this first book, Maddy has to conquer her fear of rejection and get her art portrayed in an art gallery. She also met with her high school sweetheart with whom she had an ugly breakup, and she also decides to make peace with her old lover. Lovely scenes, both did some growing up and the closeness and love between the three friends was lovely to read about. They do a lot of communicating thru emails and that added an interesting element to the book, reading email correspondence.

I absolutely loved this. It was light and fun yet serious and emotional all at the same time. The characters were real and easy to get attached to—Even if you did want to bang their heads together a couple of times! I'll have to look into getting the others in this series when I can. :)

Maybe it's just because I've taken a break from romance novels for a bit, but this seemed especially good. I loved the characters and hooked on the roller coaster their relationship took. I appreciated that there was an extra layer added to it by having the protagonists deal with both the past and present.
The opening pages annoyed me because the dialogue was bland but the characters sorted themselves out and quickly gained dimension.
Looking forward to reading the second in the trilogy!

Almost Perfect by Julie Ortolon 4 college girl friends, now later in life are remembering their earlier lives. one of them has
written a book with the other 3 kiinda mentioned in it, no by names but what they did in college. as the ladies sit around and
chat about it, they realize the author is right. they challenge one another to overcome their fear, leading them off in different
directions to accomplish them within a years time. this book is about Maddy and how after she looses her husband after 6 years her
friends tell her to go accomplish her career goal of being a painter/artist. she gets that opportunity while being the craft director at
a camp. she meets up with an old boyfriend and after a bit of loving she decides to stick around to help him with his other camp project.
but then her paintings take off. to the point where the gallery owner wants to promote her career hoping to recoupe what she's put into it
within a years time. that means traveling and maddy isn't too sure now what she wants to do. glad this is a series so each woman gets
her own book. i rate this a 5, very interesting things and places
