A helpful primer and introductory text on everything the description notes:
- How to appreciate disability history and identity
- How to recognize and avoid ableism (discrimination toward disabled people)
- How to be mindful of good disability etiquette
- How to appropriately think, talk, and ask about disability
- How to ensure accessibility becomes your standard practice, from everyday communication to planning special events
- How to identify and speak up about disability stereotypes in media 

I'm not saying this to be pretentious or as if I have nothing else to learn (I'm not an expert at anything! I am a lifelong learner!), but as a disabled reader and someone who seeks out texts on disability often, I didn't learn anything new here, but I do think this is incredibly valuable and accessible for those early on in their journey. 

A great introduction to disability history and addressing ableism! A fantastic, quick primer on a topic that has very much been pushed off to the side or is considered “too uncomfortable” to talk about.

It Is very much a “beginners guide” so to say and I would not necessarily recommend it to someone who has lived experience with a disability or has been involved in disability advocacy for a while.

From an accessibility standpoint (as this is a book about disability), its physical copy has a nice comfortable weight and page thickness to it for easy holding and page turning. From a processing standpoint, more difficult terms are explained clearly and easily. However, it uses a sans-serif font, which can be difficult for some people with dyslexia or vision disabilities to process. 

Read it!!!

 - If you are an able-bodied person, DEMYSTIFYING DISABILITY is a great 101-level resource for everything from disability rights history to proper language to ensuring accessibility is always top of mind for any given event.
- Even if you think you have a handle on all thing disability, I'd still recommend checking it out. I realized when I got to the history section that I had little concept of disability rights activism before the Americans With Disabilities Act, and I learned a lot.
- The writing style of this book is friendly, a we're-in-this-together tone. It would be a great gift for a young reader given the tone and simplicity of the writing, since disability and accessibility issues are generally not taught in schools.
