Did hesitate between 3 and 4 as I wanted to give 3,5. Starts off great, second part very good but starting to become a bit tedious, third part a bit too repetitive to me, personally.

And Frank is an arsehole.

Lean Fall Stand was an interesting book. It was my first novel by Jon McGregor and I'm now curious to read more from this author. This novel was presented in 3 parts- Lean Fall & Stand. My favorite part of the book was the first part in Antarctica and I wish that section had been longer. In fact, my main complaint with this book is that it was too short. I wanted just a little bit more in each section. I wanted more about the Antarctica mission and in particular the incident and aftermath. I also wanted more Anna when Robert returned home to recuperate.
The writing style was unique and took a bit of getting used to for me. I quickly got into the rhythm of Robert's thoughts in the first part of the book and then the perspective changed to Anna. I really liked Anna and I wanted so much more about her and Robert.
I learned a lot about strokes and stroke recovery from this novel. I felt great sympathy for the stroke survivors as they tried to communicate with each other. That section of the book was definitely the most emotional for me and it certainly highlighted the complexity of recovery for both patients and their loved ones. This is a story about communication & failure/ inability to communicate.
Overall, I really liked this book. It was a unique story told in a unique way and I recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC.

Avery unusual book that I was fascinated by although I don't know that I understand completely what happens or happened.

What is this? A wonderful human story

ThiS is a great, moving, complicated book. It less about ice and snow, more about how two people react to events, compared to family and work colleagues.

Enjoyed this almost as much as Reservoir 13. A fantastic novel; at first adventure story gripping then moving to an exploration of the power of words and story telling and intersections with ideas of responsibility to our fellow humans whether a work mate or your mate. Complicated, simple and thoroughly enjoyable. It would have gotten 4 1/2 if Goodreads allowed that; 1/2 shy of 5 as some parts of the Fall into Stand section were a little slow.
