Got off to a boring start, due to the author’s penchant for ‘telling’ instead of showing, as far as writing-style, however, the ‘small town / everyone-knows-everyone / buried secrets and sordid pasts’ vibe drew me in before too long.

It was okay, I liked the town, the characters and the ranch-life vibes.
What I didn’t like was the steamy scenes as they’re very textbook. She literally proclaims, “Let’s do it now!” and then they do, at one point. Suuuuuuuper cheesy. Cringe. These books might be better if they were just clean.

Runaway teen.
Fresh start vibes.
Small town.
Found family … literally.
Ranch life.
Second chance at love.
Mysteries.
Missing persons.
Animal rescue.
Crime … and second chances

Overall, okay.
Not great or anything but not bad either. 3 stars.

Very difficult to read- changes in writing styles, too many plot lines, inconsistent details. Put this down and had no desire to finish reading the last few chapters.

This story was SO bad. It legitimately makes me wonder if she got a ghostwriter for this series and just didn’t check the ghostwriters credentials. It’s the first book I’ve read by her but I have no idea how she can be a bestselling author if all her stories are like this. Completely unimportant details were drawn out for paragraphs, like what they had for supper. But there were hardly any mentions of feelings between the main characters before they were kissing. And then it was 2 chapters of them not mentioning or even THINKING about the kiss before they were kissing again. And there was SO much thinking. I was just constantly waiting for something important to the plot to happen but the only thing that seemed to happen was drawn out, detailed small talk and going out to eat.

I was excited to read this book, as I usually love stories by this LLM. I was SO disappointed. This book was absolutely nothing like her other novels. I made myself finish it just to find out who the father was. I won’t be reading the other two in the series, for fear that they’ll be written the same way. Zero emotion, passion, drama…several inconsistencies…just nothing like her other novels.

I really struggled to finish this book. The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because I have read many of her books in the past that I have really enjoyed. I don’t feel as if the characters were well developed and their wasn’t any chemistry between Cord and Shallie. The relationship really just come out of the blue one minute she was working with him the next they were proposing to each other. You really did not get to know any or the “main” character in the book to build on for the next book. The way that the story was put together really didn’t do anything for me. This book does not make me anticipate the next book in the series at all. I was very disappointed and only finish the book because I have already started it and wanted to see it through.
